Name That Trail
Integral to the Montane community, the Montane Trail Network owned by Parastone Developments Ltd is one of the largest trail systems in Fernie, providing our community with doorstep access to a multitude of year-round adventures including biking, hiking and Nordic skiing.
The “Adaptive Trail” as it has been known since construction in 2018 is the feature four-kilometer trail providing access to all other trails in the network and includes a 2 meter wide path with less than a cumulative five percent grade from the Coal Creek Bridge all the way to the Montane Hut. Offering gorgeous panoramic views of the Elk Valley, the Montane Hut is the perfect place to rest or warm up and enjoy nature at its finest.
The trail was designed with accessibility at the forefront to ensure all members of the Fernie community have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, including families, seniors and persons with disabilities.
The trail was a collaborative partnership led by the Fernie Trails Alliance with generous contributions from the Columbia Basin Trust, Teck Coal Ltd, the Regional District of East Kootenay, City of Fernie, the Fernie Trails Alliance, Parastone Developments Ltd as well as many individual donors who contributed over one thousand volunteer construction hours.
As one of Fernie’s most used and loved trails, it is time to “name that trail” with a moniker that has been selected by the community itself! As such, we are proud to announce the trail will be renamed to “Easy Beaver” with signage and maps to be updated Spring 2021. Congratulations to Holly Soetaert for contributing the winning name and who will receive a $500 gift certificate to spend at The Guides Hut, donated by Parastone Developments Ltd and the Guides Hut.
Parastone Developments would like to wish everyone a safe and healthy holiday season.
